Re-installng rear window?
« on: March 10, 2008, 01:01:33 PM »
Any good tips on re-installing a rear window on a 68 coupe?  It came out easy.  We fixed the "expected" rear window rust.  It lines up well.  Just don't want to make any unknow mistakes...  (And I feel about glass work the same way I feel about plumbing. "If water would just run uphill...)  ;)

Install it with urethane, not butyl tape - GM never used butyl on windshields or backlites. Butyl is an easier short-cut method, but it's "Bubba".

Butyl is not legal to use in Canada anymore either. Wear gloves when you use urethane as it can be messy. i had a local glass guy come to my house and install my windows for 25 bucks each. I could hardly buy the good urethane for that.

Thanks John, we are planning on using urethane, but it helps to have you verify that decision.

Whoa! $25!  Firez, you just confirmed my gut feeling to call my friendly, local glass guy!

And to think, all my friends, including Bubba, were saying, "We can do it!".

Thanks CRG!
