yoke to transmission tail shaft clearance
« on: February 25, 2008, 07:43:20 PM »
What should the distance between the end of the tail shaft and the yoke be? I have a slight vibration which I thought was the drive shaft needing balancing. When I got ready to pulling the drive shaft, I noticed about 1 3/4" to 2" space. Is this to much. Turbo 400 application.
Thks. in advance
Sam

I'm accustomed to seeing 3/4" to 1" or so.

I have seen up too a 2 inch gap on the yoke and never had a problem. On 4speed and Auto. You should be fine, in fact when you get down on it, the yoke will go in farther into the tailshaft.

I run about a finger width. Check your pinion angle. shaft maybe running to straight, that will make it vibrate.

Thanks Guy's. Could someone tell me the correct length of the driveshaft for 69 Camaro w/turbo 400. I'm not sure what I have, it was in the car when I got it but it wasn't the original engine or trans. Their was also evidence that the drive shaft broke at one time (dented floor boards).
Thks.:
