Chevy 283
« on: February 21, 2008, 12:34:30 AM »
I was currious to know if a 350 crank would work in a 283 block and what mods would need to be done if it would work.
Thanks

Thanks for the post!
So if I'm reading right I end up with a stroked 283?

Cannot drop a 350 crank in a 283 block. Why would anyone want such a lousy combo anyway?

My understanding is the 307 is just a stroked 283.

I should explain...Out of a bunch of parts we have a friend and I are trying to throw something together for a 31 Ford Rat Rod we're building.  It does'nt have to be a great combo just something that would run.  From the sound of it it's not going to work without spending dollars to make it work.  Thanks for the comebacks.

Nope, won't fit - in addition to the difference in main journal diameter, the counterweights on a 350 crank will interfere with the bottom of the cylinders in a 283 block.

Laying it in the block was kind of the give away that it would not work but it was worth the try in asking.  We have already started to look around for something else.  It won't take much chevy horse power to push a 31 Ford coupe.
