Correct exhaust pipe to manifold nuts
« on: December 08, 2007, 05:59:04 PM »
I have seen a few "correct" nuts.  I have tried to Xreference the original part  number of the nut (it is the same for L6 and all V-8's) and is 3829086 which at AMK turns up an ordinary grade 5 3/8-16 nut.

The locking versions I've thought were correct are in these pics, my prejudiced preference is for the ordinary nut style in the first pic.

Thanks for comment please

The crimp nuts with the "neck" in the bottom photo are GM #3829086; same nut was used on the Corvette, and its configuration has been well-documented for many years.

You have to have these for full credit in the "Legend Certification" at the Camaro Nationals.  Many install the incorrect ones but the good new is Rick's !st Gen now sells them with the exhaust stud kit.

The nuts in the 3rd (bottom pic) are the ones I have always received in the AMK kits.

Yes and the nuts are available separate from the studs at AMK and the price is very reasonable at $1 each.

I'm confused.  part number 3829086 in the 2005 AMK catalog is a coned nut, not what is pictured in the first post (huglok).  There are a couple of different thicknesses to the huglok nuts.  Which ones was used for 69 Camaros?

I just purchased a set #6498K from Paragon Corvette Reproductions, $9.00, per JohnZ's recommendation.  Paragon list them for 1956-1981 Corvette, Original Style, Zink Plated, Exhaust Stud Crimp Nuts.  Here are a couple of pic's for reference.
