Body number vs. VIN
« on: January 14, 2008, 03:07:29 AM »
I found a '69 Z11 n Epay today which is a mere 65 vin units before mine.  It purports to be a one owner car.  My car is 9N626575 and the Ebay one is 9N626510.  Both are 03E cars.  My fisher body number is 304192 while the Ebay one is 305271 or 1079 units higher.  Is there an explanation for the fact that the VIN indicates they were probably made on the same day but the body numbers were 1079 units apart?

Body # was assigned at the time the dealer placed the order for the car with the factory.  VIN was assigned at time of production.  This has been discussed in several previous posts including:

For a variety of reasons, the BDY number on the Cowl Tag can vary significantly from the VIN sequencing (when the car was ordered by the dealer vs. when the VIN was assigned at time of production) with no direct correlation between the two.

You might also want to try and search the CRG forum site for other postings on the topic.
