I have a 68 RS and am new here, I have had my car for about 3 months, and like many, I am really getting into finding out what I have, Location A on the trim tag is 11A I asume this mean 1st week in November, and on the trans the case # is 3885010 and the date code horizontal on the rear of the case is P1103 and there is a tag on one of the bolt on the cover side that is 3890534 the first 3 could be something else becouse the bolt is blocking it a little, and the rear end is a 12 bolt and the date is D 14 7, I have looked up some of these #s and may be right or not, I wanted to post them here and see what someone that knows alot more than me would decode them as, basically original to the car, and is the what trans is in the car. the speedo cable is on the passanger side, and I read were the cable should go through the firewall on right of the steering column, the only whole I have is small and I dont know if it had a two piece cable or what,  I posted a thread in the originality section with a pic of this hole. any help would greatly be appreciated, I am new at 1st generation camaros and this car is odd as to the options it has.
Thanks
Lane

You are correct. 11A is the first week of November, 1967.

The 3890534 is a 65-67 M20 application. Yours is a 66 transmisson going by the main case number (3885010), and the date code (P1103, or November 3rd, 1965 for a 1966 model).

The 12 bolt is dated April 14th, 1967 so it's probably not original to the car since your car was assembled in early November.

What's the VIN and the rest of the Trim Tag info?

Lane, the seller stated he had the original dealer invoice. Did you not get that in the deal? This will tell you exactly what you car originally started out life as.

By the way, I think you made a good purchase. A nice car with a few minor issues for 17k is a good deal. (You need to fix the rust under the vinyl top however.)

He did not have the dealer invoice, his add said original paper work, when I went to pick the car up he said it was at his shop along with the A/C brackets. he mailed me the brackets but never got any paper work. I might give him a call? Also I would have never gave 17k for the car.

Yes, by all means call him. This is well worth a phone call.

You did a "Buy it Now" for 17K. Did you work out a deal after that for less money?

Lane, I collect the 68 VIN's for the CRG database. ebay is a great place to get lots of cars in one chunk! I take the VIN, Trim tag info, POP data, any misc documentation, etc... including the seller, the date(s) the car was on ebay, the buyer and how much it sold for. I also save all the pictures. It takes a good amount of my time, but it's worth it.

Can I ask what you actually paid? (You can email me offline if you want. My email address is bertfam@verizon.net)
