Here's another.

Tom Harrison was one of the IL owners.

The owner as of 1997 or so was a customer of our Camaro business in Milwaukee and lived in Hartford WI. The car was memorable as it is one of few factory heater delete Camaros. I do not remember the owners name; the car was Le Mans blue with blue custom interior.

William,

Tom was the owner back in 1997 or before? And then sold it to someone else that brought it into your shop as well? Just trying to setup a timeline.

Thanks for a great lead!

That's correct. I believe Tom sold it to the guy that brought it in. Since it was more or less complete he did not buy much, just some detail stuff.

I have not seen it since; do not know if it still in WI.

Jim, looks like a great way to go looking. Maybe I need to learn how to build a website and do the same. ;)

How do people find you? Just buy searching? Obviously by being on the CRG website too.

GaryL,

Just build it and they will come. :-)  Seriously, it's much easier having the story out on the web, you don't have to keep repeating yourself to everyone that you meet. Just tell them to read the story. With the great leads that I got off CRG, I'll hit all the Camaro clubs in WI and IL, asking them if they remember the car and the owner.. I just tell the club president or VP to advise his members about the www.findmyengine.com website. Works great...

I'm actually going to start a "Post your own" find my engine area shortly. Would you like to be the first to post?

The car was memorable as it is one of few factory heater delete Camaros.

How did one go about ordering C48 (heater delete) on a domestically-delivered '69, as it was a federal MVSS requirement to have a heater/defroster beginning with the '68 model year?

JohnZ,

I really don't know.. Maybe because the car was ordered and went directly to Hawaii? Can someone else explain this?

John,
I haven't found the MVSS code for 68-69, but HI delivered cars often (always?) don't have heaters in them. Common source for the heater delete plates that show up on ebay.
And the HI window stickers don't have C48 on them, but they do have an export prep RPO.

The car in question was delivered new in HI; he had all the paperwork. The engine bay block-offs were undisturbed but the dash block-off plate was gone.

I did some digging under MVSS #103 (the windshield defrosting/defogging standard), and there was originally some sort of Export exemption, but I can't find the text of the law that governs or defines it:

     15 USC 1397, sec. 108 (b)(5)
