Is a #1111489  -  8 H 21 (Aug 21st 1968 ) dated distributor too early for my 11D (4th week Nov. 1968 ) build car ?
I'm having allot of trouble finding a date correct one, and this is the closest I've found yet.
Thanks for any help.

The date should be on or before the engine build date stamped on the pad. The closer the better. That far in advance seems to be outside the range prefered based on what I have seen. There are always exceptions, but if you don't have the known original those exceptions would not apply.

My 11B has it's orig 1111488 distributor and it's dated 8 H 29, so it could be possible.

Billy,

That date is fine for an early car.  These parts were made in big runs and from time to time there is a wide gap.  The famed Brandenburg survivor car in the beginning of my book is a mid Feb built car and it has a factory installed 8K30 1111480 distributor in it.

I pulled one out of a L48 that was a December motor with an earlier than your distributor. Use it. Smiley

Paul,
That's Me ! Kinda tough without a picture, but I've been looking for one for a long time. Now I just have to have Jerry rebuild it for me.

I have a 68 L48 survivor 10D with 4 spd. trans. my distributor part # is 1111264 which is a correct 68 part # and the date is  7J5. I was wonderinging the same,  if it was to far apart but the part # matches the car perfect and the rest of the parts in the motor all are within 2 months.

That's September 5th - if it's prior to the stamped engine assembly date on the front pad, it should be OK.

Your 68 model car was made in 67.  The dist. stamp is the date it was made up, not the model it's for.

September '67 distributor is fine in an October '67-built '68 if the distributor date is prior to the engine assembly date.

It appears to me his car was made in the 68 "model" year in the 4th week of September (10D) in 1967 and his distributor was made September 5th 1967.  The distributor would seem to be a match to me.  What have I overlooked?

It's like John Z said, if it's before the date on the engine assembly stamp, you're cool.

John, how were you able to edit your response (post #16) almost 26 hrs after your original one?  My post was based on yours but now that you have changed it mine appears out of place or not to refer back to anything.  If you have editing power to remove mine then please do.  Thanks.

68Z,  distributer part numbers are marked on the unit next to the date for the correct motor it goes with.

I meant time-wise, not location.
