69 Z28 302 Replacement engine
« on: June 09, 2006, 12:39:01 AM »
Hey Guys Does any one know what is correct for a replacement engine? I found one for sale that has all the right parts not sure on the #s The block is a 010 cast date of B 5 70 stamped CE0A294 I know the 0 is for 1970 should that be a 9 for a 69 or do they just date for the year it was built? The heads are 3991492 has the 1178 crank pink rods 7708 balancer 472 intake correct valve covers windage tray Does this sound like it could be a correct engine for my Z28 or did they use correct blocks for the model year any help would be great thanks.Scott

A "CE" short block for a Z/28 would have come from Flint, and the date code on the block you mention pegs it as a Tonawanda block; sounds like a "CE" block intended for another application that's had 302 innards installed in it somewhere along the line. The 492 heads have 2.02" valves, but they're service replacements - never had a production application. Should run just fine, but neither the block nor the heads are "correct".
