Good Photos of 1969 SS350 Engine?
« on: November 11, 2007, 03:20:42 PM »
I am rebuilding my SS and making it all stock.  I have all of the original parts with correct numbers and dates.  I have about 10 camaro books with nice color pics but none of them have a good pic of the engine.  The assembly manual stinks in my opinion.  I Google SS350 pics but nothing is original.  (fan sticker, headers, etc.)  I am looking for some pics of an original, correct, L-48 engine for reference.  THANKS.

What do you want to know?  If you have all the original parts, the engine was basically all orange. :)

I realize that.

I just wanted to see pictures of exactly what the engine compartment/engine looked like on an bone stock, original.  Most of these books have pics of the 302 and big blocks.

Earl,

There are tons of big block images for reference all over the internet.  The main differences between your L/35 ( non-SHP ) and the SHP ( L/78 )
396's are:  dual vs. single fule lines, Rochester vs. Holley carb, cast iron vs. aluminum intake, and 4-blade vs. 7-blade fan.  All else is the same as it
pertains to engine painting, component finishes, exhaust manifolds, bracketry finishes, etc..  One possible exception would be A/C, which was not
available on the SHP engines.

Sadly, many non-SHP 396 engines morphed into SHP engines during the late 1990's due to potential resale values - hence the reason for the lack of
non-SHP 396 variants.

Here are some shots of my '69 L-48 orig. motor. Not a survivor, but I've been working on getting back all stock.

Thanks Camaro Billy.  Thats the kind of pics I was looking for.  My car is an 11D ss/rs like yours.  Your car looks good.

I should have noted this is the set up for an auto trans car. A manual car would be different.

I have collected some pictures of engines, but have to say that those from Camarobilly are pretty damn nice.
Anyway here are a few of L48's
