DF rally wheels
« on: October 30, 2007, 11:09:06 PM »
I was able to purchase 6 DF rallies on the weekend at a local swap meet and wondered if anyone has seen them stamped DF pointing to the inner part of the rim. Also none have any dates at all,any ideas.

My kids are away at college so when they arrive back home I will have them post pics. The DF is facing in towards the centre of each rim and the numbers by the 15 By 6 JK are 2 upside down under the 15 then a 68 side by side under the 6. There is also a B with Gm by the lug nuts and also a K1 by the lug nuts. under nieth the 15 By 6 there is a circle with an 8 stamped inside of it. Any ideas.I read in Jerrys book they could be a 2nd or 3rd version wheel. Thanks

Pictures will tell the tale.  It sounds like they are dated February, 1968.  The "B" by the lugnut holes could also be an "8" which would then be K-1-8.  That all would fit with Jerry's description of the third version.

No it is a B sideways to the GM on the lug area. Then the K! is also in the lug nut area with a faint marking undernieth. All wheels appear to be marked the same way .The slots on these are a bit bigger than on the 4 DFs on my car. About 1.089 inches compared to 1 inch slots on the car.

Those are 68 DF ralleys. The date code is on the inside of the rim and is possibly B for February of 68. They have the large DF that is upside down or facing towards center. Those are the desirable DF rims vs the common service replacement 69 DF's that are manth and day coded by the valve stem hole.

Thanks for the help,I knew when I seen them at the swap meet they were DFs but had no idea of the dates as I have never seen the date  not stamped by the vavle stem . 4 are real nice and the other 2 were drilled around were the bead of the tire would be front and back.

There are actaully five versions of DF wheels.  Have an in-depth chapter on this on page 86 of our 67-68 Z28 Camaro fact book,

I am working on it now but there is alot of new information that has to be written and with my travel schedule, (in Cedar Rapids, IA now) it's been tough to get it ready for the 4th edition printing.  I am hoping to have all of the updated material to te printer by the end of November and have new 1969 books by mid Dec for Xmas.

I do not know how you keep such a busy schedule .Thanks for your feedback on the new book, they are the most looked at books in my shop. I wish my grandfather was around ,I think you would have liked his take on inventory control at G.M. in the mid 60s

Got to love it!  One "DF" rally wheel sells for one-third the original price of the car...

I better buy a set of wheel locks for my car!     :)

Hi, Just found this site,  What is the story with 15 x 5 rally's, did they in fact come on early 67 Z's, And if so. what would the code be? same as big cars? I've been a F-body guy since the start. I grew up in Gardena Ca. (Ascot park) just 10 minutes from Lion's dragstrip. Pop's was a race fan.( We lived around the corner from Roland Leong, Sisters-baby sitted for Paul Jones and all the racers kids when the big races were at Ascot. Attended many Pre race  BBQ's at the Apartments. My dad always used to tell us these were the greatest drivers of the time. We were kids waiting for sodas. WHO COULD HAVE KNOWN.) I remember my at father at Lion's gushing over the new Camaro becuse it had not yet been released. We kids wanted them to have big tires, like the HAWAIIN. I still live here Torrance. The cruising/car show sceen around L.A. is growing like the 60's. It's good to see. Even now there are Cruising spots almost every night, Take your pick on Saturday mornings. I think there is a mistake in all factory production numbers. Proof: There is easly more than 20,000 69 Z's. Hundreds of 1970 topless Hemi Challangers, 1968 blue Yenko's, "R" code Shelbys, ect.. in Los Angeles alone. Ha Ha   Thank's
