I have a '69 SS - 350/300 and I'm working on putting the engine compartment back to as original as I can. I put the plain orange valve covers on it and I have a repop "S" rivitt oil filler cap on it. I found this cap and it has the "S" like the repop, but also has a "SM" or "WS" logo on it. Would this one be an original ?
If it is I'm going to paint it orange and use it.
Also I know the valve cover bolts need to painted orange (they are bare metal now), do I need to also paint the little silver tabs under the valve cover bolts orange also ?
Thanks for any help.

That is not the cap for painted covers.
In most cases the painted covers used an "X" cap - The FC-2 Oil "Fill Cap".

Thanks Jeff,
Could the one I have be an orig. "Chrome " cap like on the finned Z-28 valve covers ?

Could be for that, or big block too.
That sm cap is being made as a repro - would need to see the back to be sure it's authentic.

To try and answer your other question, I believe when the orange valve covers were used, the whole engine was painted as a unit, with the valve covers already on.  Therefore the valve cover hold down tabs and bolts would be orange also.  Can someone confirm this please?
