COPO 9737

In the latest issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines, there is a artical on a Fathom Green 69 Camaro SS L78 car. In the artical it states  the car is equiped with the sports car conversion package. Never heard of this on a non COPO 427 car.
 Could the COPO 9737 package be ordered on a SS car ?

I am not aware of any 69 camaros that were 9737, but were not equipped 9560 or 9561  427 engines. However in 1968 all Yenko cars were in fact 9737 copo's and the 427's were installed by Yenko(427 conversion). Some of the cars were never converted and they were 9737 copo's with factory L78's.

Do they have any paperwork for this car and does it have a 140 speedo?

Not all the 1968 Yenko 427 Camaros had the COPO 9737 option but most did.
The 69 Yenko Chevelle also had it. Not many dealers other then Yenko used it.

They state in the artical,"no paper work", but the restorers believe it to be an original 396 Sports Car Conversion And yes it has a 140 speedo, and larger sway bar. It then states they bought the correct 15" wheels for the resto.
You all should read the artical in question, In it there are some interesting statements about Camaro's in general that sound a little off. Such as " owner used correct headlight rings " The car looks to be a non Z 21 trim car, but the headlight rings have the chrome trim ring.
 Also the car has the more rare type of " Installed Upside down Cowl Induction Seal ".
And this quoate from one of the pictures of the tail panel, " Some purists say Fathom Green big block cars had no flat black treatment on the talilamp panel, while others say only black cars did not have the treatment. "

Anyway it is a nice looking Stripe delete SS. Enjoy the story, and be thankfull for all the knowledge here at rhe CRG.

I've never seen a non COPO with this option either.  That is why paperwork becomes paramount when trying to document anything like this.  Without it, will be hard to prove to the Camaro historians.  We get calls like this at the shop everyday.  So many call to say they have a one of one Camaro.

Just imagine what it would be like to stumble across original paperwork documenting all these cars somewhere in the depths of a Chevrolet records storeroom. What would that be worth?

Guess that's how we know it doesn't exist, somebody would have profited from the info by now if it did.

If this car has the 9737 option, it would have to be a COPO. A 38 year old Camaro could have had lots of things changed or added. The repro 140 speedo has been availible for what, 15 years? 13/16 bar also an easy add. I would think they would have looked for the ZL-2 wire hole and maybe declair it a COPO car instead. It is built up too incorrectly to be a SS clone.
