« on: July 28, 2007, 11:48:16 AM »
I am looking for the correct black paint and sheen used in the firewall, underbody, eng. compartment etc... for 68 camaros.  Does GM still make it?
Thanks

If you want to do this with a rattle can, the Rustoleum #7777 Satin black is right on the money.  If you're getting into paint guns and professional products, you'll have to use PPG or a related product with gloss or flatening agents.  The PPG DP-90 used to be good but it's too dull now.

Get Jerry's book, he has a section in the back with the correct colors and paint reccomendations.  I used it as a guide 3 years ago when I had my engine pulled.  Spent 3 weeks on the engine compartment.  It looks great!  You just don't realize how many types of black are in their until you start.

Well, I took off the front end to get this project rolling and I noticed that the untouched black firewall behind the fenders was actually a glossy black insted of a satin like I am used to seeing,  is this the common sheen for the engine compartment, floors, etc?
