I still don't understand the 10 bolt in it. Unusual since all other L48/M38 cars have a 12 bolt.
Or it got swapped and the date happened to be perfect for the car, which I kinda doubt.

Does that axle date seem a bit late for the car? I compared it to my 12B car #5583xx.

How can a rear end that was built on Dec 15th go into a car that was built the 2nd week of Dec?

i don't know where you got your info,but mines says BS=69 3:31 posi 1121=11th month 21=21st day G=gear assembly plant 2=second shift E=eaton posi

It would have been possible for a 12B body to show up on the Chevrolet side of the plant as late as December 18th, so a December 15th axle isn't out of the question. 12B is the week when the raw body started in the Body Shop at Fisher Body, not when the car was produced at Chevrolet.

My response was:
That axle date is *really* close. So close that I'd say it's possible that it's original. If so, it's the only exception I've seen in 69.
GM docs do indicate that all 69 L48 autos were to get 10 bolts, but that's not what happened.

I dont know 2 many people that would keep a car all together,and get rid of a 12bolt and replace it with a 10bolt.

If u dont think it right.What do u think it should have? What do u think the date code should B? and a 12bolt with what gears did they run? Can u find these 4 sale?I would rather have a 12bolt.  THANKS MIKE

And replace it with a 10 bolt that is perfectly dated.

Reread my posts. I believe it probably is original.
An SS auto would have 3.07 gears as standard. 2.73 would be the economy gear.

Posi was an option.
I'd leave it.
L48 = 350/300 hp engine

guess i need to check my car-(pre x code-marked X 1) rs- ss350 air cond- it has a 10 bolt pos- i just assumed it had been swaped out- especially even 30 years ago it was a lot harder to find  a 12 bolt pos and if you did it was more money-- 12 bolt from a junk yard( if i can remember) seemed to run 250- 500 and at the time a 10 bolt could be bought for as little as a 100-150- and most yards did not even look if it was pos track
