1967 Camaro Pin Stripes
« on: July 01, 2007, 12:28:00 AM »
I was recently told that all 1967 Camaros that had a nose stripe also had the factory pin strip across the tops of the fenders, doors, and rear quarters.  Is this true?  Does anyone have any information, which cars had the pin stripe?

Am I understanding the RPO, D96 that only the RS and 11 cars had the pin stripes?  Thanks for the info.  Pete

I believe the D96 stripes were not available for the 67 cars.  correct?.  The D96 started at the bottom of the fender well and followed up around and straight back half way the panel.  The pinstripe I am refering to is a point to start and into twin pin stripes from front to back over the fender wells and back into a point.

Still compares to the D96 in the 68 AIM.  Let me just say the 67 RS option did include a painted full length, dual line pinstripe.

I believe you are right, but I have seen standard 67's also with the pinstripe. Did the factory use this stripe on the RS models only?  thanks  Pete

My 67 coupe non rs car is bolero red and had the factory white pin stripes so it is not an rs only thing.

Do you know if your Bolereo Red car had the stripes b/c of an additional option or not?  My 67 SS 396 coupe is a non RS car and I have the original window sticker and it does not have the pin stripe listed on it.  I'm just curious if the pin stripe came along with the nose stripe.

D96 was available on any 1968 or 1969 Camaro as a "stand alone" option (Not available in 67 as a "stand alone" option). It came standard on 1967 and 1969 Camaro's with the Z22 Rally Sport option, but for some reason, not the 1968 Rally Sport. It also came standard on the 1969 Z11 Pace Car and the 1967 and 1969 Camaro with the Z21 Style Trim option.

As for colors, the same rule applies to the D96 striping as to the rest of the striping.

My '67 SS - 396/325 has the striping and from my research has had it from original purchase. I have copied and pasted this from a reply over at the TC site............

For 1967 Camaros:

All cars ordered with the Style Trim Group (Z21) got the side pin stripes, wheel opening moldings, and bright roof drip gutter moldings.

All Rally Sports (Z22) have the side pin stripes because the Style Trim Group (Z21) was part of the RS package.

SS cars only got the bumble bee stripe unless ordered as an RS/SS or an SS with the Style Trim Group. Then they would have both the bumble bee and side pin stripes.

That last piece of information is very helpful.  That is close to the same thing that I heard from another reliable source.  If anyone else has another opinion please post it.  Also, which cars recived the blacked out rocker panels?

Yes, 67 and 69 Z21. Forgot to put 67 down above. I've edited my original to include that.

I want to thank everyone.  My car is a 67 SS and has the style trim group. it also has the interior trim group to include the chrome pillar mlds.  outside has the wheel well mldgs, bumble bee stripe, blacked out tail pan and molding trim at the rocker panels.  I believe the stainless mldgs at rocker panels were only RS models .  The car is going for paint this week and I will be adding the pinstripes.  again thanks.

A '69 Z/28 with Z21 Style Trim (X33 car) didn't get the D96 pinstripes that other Style Trim cars got; it was deleted when Style Trim was ordered on a Z/28.

Saw a Fathom Green restored '69 SS yesterday at Camaro Superfest that had Z/28 stripes on it AND the Z21/D96 pinstripes - looked weird.

John, Was it possible to delete the D96 pinstripes on a '69 Style Trim car?

Check the assembly manual as it shows the correct width and location of the stripes. If you don't have one, I can post a copy of the page later today for you...........RatPack............

I don't know - might have been possible under a Special Paint request; William may be able to shed some light on that one.

Possible, yes.
Likely? Definitely not. Someone might think to delete the "big" stripes, but most people didn't even know if the car would have the pinstripes (kinda like this discussion. :)), much less delete them. The dealer could just remove them like they did for the pace car decal installation.

Here is a pretty good picture of a 69 SS 350 with the pinstripes, I believe it is from a 1969 ad:

Kurt is there something wrong with that particular picture? I was hoping to copy the pinstripe from that to my 69 SS 350.

I know GM did some "crazy" things with the publicity photos, like Z/28 stripes on a SS badge car, wrong rear deck lid stripes on Z/28's etc etc.

What Kurt is referring to is the D90 hockey sticks & D96 pinstripe combo, plus the enlongated hockey stick going down to the fender extension. Generally you will not see the D90 hockey sitcks with the D96 pinstripe option, but it did happen. My old 69 Carolina Blue SS had both stripes, original paint. Same goes for the DX1 & D96 combo, but there is a 6cyl here locally with original paint Burnished Brown with the DX1 and pinstripes. As for the stripe continuing down to the fender extension, I have only seen a handful of cars done that way. I don't remember the build date exactly, but I had a Fathom Green SS with original paint on the right fender and extension, and the stripe was on the extension as seen in the ad above. As for the pinstripe being deleted, what about the Yenko cars? The picture of them in the holding lot shows a Hugger Orange car with the white pinstripes. Did he remove them when doing his sticker and emblem conversion? What about the other Style Trim COPO's he received, did they have the pinstripes when he received them? .....................RatPack.....................

Interesting, so generally the cars with the D90 sticks did not get the D96 pinstripes, I will leave the D96 out of my car then.

I am getting close to painting the pinstripes on my 67 RS, what are the dimensions?
Are the two thin lines the same width?  1/8'' and separated by a 1/8'' gap?

Thanks

The '67 A.I.M. shows the upper Z-21 stripe as 1/16", separated by 1/8" from the lower stripe, which is 3/32".
