Caveat Emptor...tag swap?
« on: February 10, 2024, 05:27:03 PM »
Another NOR/VN swap?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/315150024937

124379N605034

Reported VIN is for a Camaro built at the Norwood, OH plant on or about February 27, 1969

Body tag is from a Camaro built at the Van Nuys, CA plant on or about January 9, 1969.

One or both tags may not be original to the car; hidden VINs may not match.

If that VIN is really on that car, it's a bigger problem than not matching the cowl tag.

That VIN is attached to this cowl tag and is on an existing vehicle recently sold. I suspect it's just a lazy dealer/seller that did not update his template.

Wouldn't be the first time I have seen that at a dealer.

Here's my question and the sellers reply.
Uncle Dave,
This Camaro has a different production plant that does align with the VIN plate.

It’s for a different vehicle photo on the listing to show I’m real

Uncle Dave,

So William edited his comment after my post and when the seller added a new VIN picture to the ad. It was 124379N644550 in the ad and in Williams post. Then the seller added a picture of VIN 124379N605034 and William edited his post. Then the seller changed the VIN to 124379L516141, probably after someone here asked about it.

May be a legit car with paperwork. May be a tag swap. May be a seller using the Camaro police for kicks and exposure. Either way, buyer beware.

The L516141 VIN aligns with the body tag. But, some shenanigans going on.
