1968 Camaro Z/28 on Hemmings
« on: January 16, 2024, 03:07:55 PM »
Wow they took those stripes to the MAX!  ha ha  Never actually seen them go all the way under the rear window trim and over the cowl vent under the front window trim. Crazy... Even under the hood on edge of cowl. Might as well go right over the engine onto the rad support. Why wouldn't ya look online at a million pictures to maybe get an idea at least. Guess they didn't like it.
Looks like maybe no deep groove pulleys. 3/4" x 1/2" bushing in water pump, truck pump. 5 DF Rally Wheels go with it? No smog shown.
Pretty clean car. Of course, NO stamp pics or paperwork shown.  Danny

Back in the day some guys took the stripes all the way down onto the front and rear pans, most probably were not real Z,s anyway.

My 68 Z28 still has original paint but somewhere along it's life one of the previous owners added roof stripes along with tail pan stripes, plus RS tail lights (mines a non RS car).  This was prior to 1976, it's been off the road since then.  It looks like a Shelby, only much cooler.    It definitely did happen.

Tell me about it  ;)  Here is one of my cars. And the owner's statement about painting at the time.

About this time is when I painted the white Z/28 stripes from the rear spoiler over the trunk lip and down the taillight panel to the rear bumper.  A stupid “Day two” modification, to distinguish my car from all the other Z/28’s (Which weren’t many).  To this day I regret doing that, but back then there was no cherished originality.  In fact, at one time, I was going to remove the Z/28 emblems and stripes and repaint the entire car with black lacquer.  Guys on the street were beginning to realize how fast Z/28’s were, and I wanted to disguise that, a sleeper.  It’s a good thing I never did that.  At the time I loved doing lacquer paint jobs and never heard the words “original unrestored”, or “survivor”.

Let's go one step further and send them right over the roof too.

A bit off topic but re: front & rear pan stripes...back in the day '67-'68 some Trans-Am teams, Sunoco & Morgan cars shown took

 the stripes onto the pans.

You can find a lot more info on this car if you search the proper VIN. Claims to be number matching, still doesn't show engine numbers.
