What's the casting number and casting date code? Where are you seeing the vin stamping?

Block appears to have been cast on 1229  (Dec 2, 69)... ?
VIN is a very late one and corresponds to the early december timeframe?
But how can the engine assembly be BUILT in September??

What did I miss here??   Anyone?

I read the date code as the letter I then day 22. Which is a September casting three days before the build date. Why do you say the block needs bored? Rusty, worn, damage?

I am in NJ close to Flemington, the block is rusty from sitting not pitted or scaled. I removed it from one of my cars years ago and took it to a local machine shop. The machinist looked at it and said it would need bored, the surface was worn he stated that it looked like it had been run with no air cleaner. It is currently .030 over my option was to go .040 or find another block and reuse my pistons which is what I did as it did not match my cars vin.

Cast 3 days before it was assembled, VIN is early Oct - I see no issues.
