Decklid stripes on 1969 LOS Z28's and pacers
« on: October 20, 2023, 02:05:53 AM »
We have evidence that some of the LOS-built Z11's and Z28's with spoilers had decklid stripes that extended onto the rear lip of the decklid. On NOR-built cars and early LOS cars, the stripe ended at the spoiler, as shown in the attached picture.
We are looking to define how common of a practice this was at LOS so I'm looking for any original LOS-built cars (or original pictures) out there that show either paint method. Again, this is only relevant to Z28's with factory spoilers or Z11 pace cars. Post the build date if you know it.

Thanks!
Kurt

Oh crud!
Here we go.

Dan & I might be eating Crow-Pie soon huh

Kurt, Dan B (HuggerZ) & I Jim W (169indy) have a friend with a LOS 350-4sp pacer (Body VN286066) (seattle) that is "Orig Paint" & it has stripes below the spoiler.
Mine (Body VN331906) is a 1981 repaint so no data value.

I've attached pictures of my rear deck with spoiler. Build sheet includes the D80 package. As you can see stripes continue down
the deck lid. As far as I know its factory paint. The layout dimensions match the assembly manual.
Hope this helps in the discussion.

LOS built 1969 camaro z28 (10D).

Rear antenna?  Was this more for example photo and not an actual representation.?.

Does it not have a decklid emblem?

This is the part that pertains to the photo in Kurt’s original post.

The original post also said, "We have evidence that some of the LOS-built Z11's and Z28's with spoilers had decklid stripes that extended onto the rear lip of the decklid"
So, I was just providing some information about mine. Thank you.

Thanks Bryon, I understand what Kurt is asking.  Just wanted confirmation on if the overall photo was an accurate representation.

asm69,
I wasn't trying to call you out just wanted to confirm if the lid had an emblem.  The photo doesn't appear to show one which would lead me to believe the spoiler was added post factory.  Info requested was "this is only relevant to Z28's with factory spoilers or Z11 pace cars. Post the build date if you know it.".  I just didn't want there to be any confusion.  Heck maybe I'm confused.

My car is a LOS 10D build. My build sheet has the D80 (spoiler option).  I'm the second owner it never had the Camaro emblem on the
rear deck lid.

Yes that’s what we are looking for! Thank you!

I was just trying to provide a little clarification.

Didn't realize you had documentation.  Very interesting.  And thank you for clearing up my confusion.

don't know if relavent ? just to muddy the water, here's a '69 Z photo dated June '69, looks like the stripes go below the spoiler,

can any one tell what tags are on the car ? perhaps that will tell where it might have been built ?

Just for reference, maybe no help, again know nothing about this one, if it is original paint & stripes, looks to have the script on the

 deck lid.

Looking at it again things don't line up deck lid to spoiler, so likely repaint.

One more and then I'll go away... ;)   again just for reference, it's most likely a pilot job, press launch at GM proving grounds, looks

like the stripes continue onto the trunk lid ?

Great picture of the rear deck lid stripes going down the deck lid as well as where the stripes begin
under the rear glass. The picture I posted of my rear stripes start about 4 inches below the
rear glass. Want to say again the rear stripes of my 69 match exactly to the assembly manual.
Thanks for the picts.

It appears that there's no rear deck "Camaro" emblem as well on the GM proving ground picture.
Is that correct?

Group 7, that's my car. Originally a non-spoiler car, spoiler was added after delivery. NOR car, 01B. That is my favorite pic though :)

asm69, does your car have the short spoiler?

Also take a pic from the underside of the lid to see if there are holes where the emblem was under the spoiler.,

I also see you say it calls out D80 on the build sheet?? Would this be the Chassis Broadcast Sheet?

My car does have the short spoiler. I've attached a picture of the underside of the
rear deck lid where the Camaro emblem would mount. I do see some type
of weld/brazen on the underside. Maybe you can tell me what that means.
I do have the Chassis Broadcast copy, the Body Broadcast copy, and copy
of the invoice. The option for the "Air Spoiler equipmen" is 05D80AA ($25.21) is
found on the invoice. I don't know what box to look at on the Chassis or Body Broadcast
copy for the Air Spoiler option. Thank you.

Interesting story here in another thread, I wonder if the stripes are original to the car ? looks like they run down to the edge of the

deck lid ? in the write up he says the rear spoiler was added later.
