1969 Camaro RS/SS L48

I picked up an all original RS/SS car and have a few questions on the engine. The engine pad stamp is the 300 Horse L48 with a TH350. The VIN is stamped near the oil filter so I have no doubt its original to the car. I cannot seem to find if it has the correct heads. The date stamp indicates they are probably original to the car. Here are the numbers:

Van Nuys Built car. 01D P603 L518806

Engine pad is T11 (23 or 28) HB
Heads are 832441 (Could be 932441) K21 8 date code

When I find the 441 heads, they indicate 76cc combustion chambers? Thought they were supposed to be 186 heads with 64cc chamber. No special markings in the casting like the double humps. They do have 0000 stamped on the front smooth portion.

Any thoughts if the heads are correct?

Nice write up, explained a lot.

Everything I have indicates the L48 option, but cant figure out the heads. Maybe they were swapped when it was rebuilt. Might have to just swap them out.

What's the VIN of the car? Also, post a picture of the trim tag, the front engine pad and the casting numbers of the heads.

3932441 is probably what you're seeing and those would be correct for LM1 engines.

I have read that on a few forums. The question would be are they different pistons to gain the higher compression or are they smaller chambers than the 76cc specs.

L518806 is the last of the vin...

Sorry, I posted wrong above so I've fixed it. The 3932441 heads would be correct for the LM1 engine, not the L48.

Although we have mostly 3947041 heads on the L48 engines in the database, there are a few instances where L48's have the 3927186 heads, which were mostly used on the Z28 engine. We don't have any L48 engines in the database with 3932441 heads.

Yes, thats the one. I bought it from the guy who bought from him 10-11 years ago. Been sitting in storage ever since. Everything is legit on the car and the original glass is like new. Just dont understand what happened with the engine rebuild and why they put those heads on it. It is a 4 bolt main and the front pad stamp looks original and the VIN is stamped in the block showing its from this car.

It is an original TH350 car that was converted to 4 speed. All date correct parts including a 69 Camaro trans from a Norwood car.

Might have to try the number and call the guy....

Typical dealer double speak.

it is a neat car still, Love the White exterior so the Heads were the Last thing this restore was worried about.

The ad also said " Here's a small list fo original parts that come with the car" "Numbers matching automatic Trans." So you have the original TH 350 ?

Yep, I like the D90 stripes better, but either way, it looks good. The endura bumper is a nice touch too.

It was not a dealer that sold it, but it does sound like some of the dealer listings. Very correct car in most aspects and mostly all original parts. When they said frame off, I am assuming they pulled the front subframe out and put new bushings. Everything underneath looks original to the car. No rust or evidence of a rust repair. The rear wheel wells look to have the original undercoating and body plugs in as well. Definitely stored indoors for most or all of its life.

The standard wheel on a 1969 Camaro SS350 had a 14 x 7 inch rim.
