Introduction with photos and question about 1968 Z28
« on: May 26, 2023, 03:06:10 AM »
Hello,

I'm obviously new to the forum and if this is posted in the wrong place or isn't appropriate, please move it or advise me how to edit it. I've lurked a bit and see that this is a great resource.

I owned a couple Z28's around 1970 in Seattle and I occasionally start poking around and considering trying to find another. I haven't been able to find vin numbers for either of the cars. My old insurance company says they don't have records that far back and was told by someone at the Washington State DMV that they lost a lot of their old records. I had a white 1967 with factory headers, but I got T-boned by a tow truck at an intersection which totaled it. I was able to replace it with a white 1968 RS Z28 with black vinyl roof, but later sold it. I've attached a couple of photos  I have. At least I tried to, we'll see when I post this.

If anyone knows where a white with black roof 1968 RS Z28 is lurking I'd love to hear about it. It would be amazing to track my old car down somehow. I know it's a wild goose chase but I kind of keep picking away looking for information.

Thanks,
Mark

You nailed it Jim, 5800 block of East Greenlake Way, Seattle. Better pictures attached now. I'm in Kitsap County now too.

Great photos.  Good luck on your search. I don’t believe I have anything on either car.  Hopefully CRG database might.?

Good Luck on your search. I am wondering if some white cars are found, and you go look at them, how are you going to determine if it was the one you used to own? Maybe you get lucky and whomever owns it, it will show YOU as a previous owner in some paperwork. Those pic's look like they are shot from a 2nd or 3rd story window. Danny

Totally agree on the level of difficulty and not counting on anything but figured it doesn't hurt to start asking around. I do at least have the license plate number of the 68, shown in this other photo. I may have another photo too, I'm still looking.

The pictures in the first post were taken from the top of our street level flat roofed garage, you can see a part of the roof in one photo.

Identifying either car would certainly be a long shot but maybe could be traced backwards from where it is today. I'm assuming that given the accident the '67 is likely long gone for parts or junked at the time by the insurer, but the '68 may well be around somewhere. Interesting to ask around anyway. Thanks for everyone's input.

Thanks,
Mark

I don't know the originating dealer for sure. I bought it used from University Chevrolet in Seattle is what I recall, though Alan Green Chevrolet kind of rolls around in my head too.

Thanks

Here is one trick.

Walk into a local (Kitsap Way or Silverdale Way) DOL-DMV contractor site.
Play the Game ask if WA OSE 273 plate is Clear and or previously issued and used. (As under the Restored Plates Program)
https://www.dol.wa.gov/vehicleregistration/sprestored.html

Not much could be really garnered but, small parts of the puzzle, if you know what I mean.

I lost my insider contact 1993 in Wa state capitol Olympia (DOL-DMV) they REALLY started ratcheting down the privacy act stuff. I miss her for sure. They used to do micro Fisch look ups and print them out for a fee and mail it directly to you, Registrations, bill of sale, Transactions, Dang those were the good old days.

Thanks Jim, I'll give that a try, small steps sometimes add up.

When I contacted the Washington DMV, the person essentially offered no help and I thought I remembered that they said they lost a lot of records a number of years ago, a fire or something like that.

There was an article in Hemmings about trying to locate a vehicle that you might find helpful:
