That's a pretty good chunk of time after nearly 50 years! Danny

That article is misleading.  The Rapid Transit System was a part of Chrysler's advertising campaign to sell 1970 model high performance cars, including the Roadrunner, The Cuda, the R/T, etc..  I bought two of them in 1970 (A '70 Roadrunner I special ordered), and later that year after I got married and my wife couldn't drive the 4speed, I sold it to a buddy and bought a '70 Challenger RT/SE with auto (and practically every option available)..   The Chrysler RTS ads were good, some having the production cars pictured, and some with 'cartoonish' enhancements but with all the RTS cars lined up.   I have some of those original 1970 magazine ads somewhere in my mags.

BUT this article and those 'modified' cars presented are not only UGLY as heck, but I don't recall seeing ANY chrysler ads with them depicted.   Those are enough to discourage a prospective buyer!

Beauty, as they say, is in the eye of the beholder (or at least that's what they said years ago). Personally, I think the car looks great. I'm a fan of period aesthetics. I saw mod top Camaros on dealer lots and loved them. Those are probably not appreciated by some today either.

MO...I agree...it is stunning in its own way.  I was 12 years old in 1970 and I frequently went by the local Chrysler-Plymouth dealer to see the cool Mopar muscle cars...Cudas, Road Runners, Dusters, even Furys.  I got a Rapid Transit brochure and some free stickers (God knows where they are now...they would probably fetch a good price on Ebay).  I celebrate the '70s...brilliant music, clothing, and cars, and waayyy the hell better than these crappy times.  If you didn't experience those times, it's difficult to understand just how cool and over-the-top they were.

Completely agree! The 60's and 70's were great times to be a kid into cars. If you missed it....you missed out!
