15x8 & 15x10 best backspacing for 1968
« on: April 30, 2007, 10:18:39 PM »
I am ordering new rims for the rear of my vehicle. I'm either going with 15x8's and have std choices of 3.75 or 4.75 backspacing or 15x10 w/ 4.00bs. Any suggestions on what bs to choose for stock suspension. Tire size will liely be 255/60-15 but may want to go 295/50-15's.

Thanx T

I put 15x9 Weld Pro Stars on my '68 with 4.75" backspacing. The tires are 11x15x28 Hoosier street slicks. It's very close as far as the shock and tire clearance, but it works. 10" wheels at 4" backspacing should be fine, but will a 10" wheel at 6" positive offset clear your outer wheelwells? It's very hard to stuff a 10" wheel and tire combination into a stock '68 wheelwell without bending the outer quarter panel lip up or jacking the car up in the rear. That's my experience and I hope it helps. Good luck!

T, I can help you with this later today. Right now I don't have access to the pictures of the two cars here to post. I can tell you one has 10" Cragar S/S wheels with 4.25" backspace with Mickey Thompson Sportsman Pro 28 x 12.50 tires and no tire clearance problems. The other car has 8-1/2" Americans with 3-3/4" backspace, and is running 275/60 BFG T/A's. I think I may have some pictures of American 200s wheels (originals) 10" with 275/60 tires, and US Indy mags 8-1/2" wide, with M/T L60-15 Indy tires. One thing, you cannot run a wheel with more than 4.25" backspacing without getting into the inner wheelhouse. Suspension will also play a role into what hits or fits....................RatPack...............

thanx for the offer - but it's been all set for a while - i wound up going with 15x8 3.75bs -19mm offset using 295/50-15 tires - they fit perfect no rub anywhere with stock multileaf rears (no coil overs or shackle extenders)
