SPARK PLUG WIRE RETAINERS ON VALVE COVERS
« on: March 26, 2023, 03:56:35 PM »
On the RH side of a 350/300 L48 1969 SS are the retainers/separators hollow side down or up? I see them both ways. How did they come originally not painted?

These are also called separators and pics/THREADS show both ways. Threads say no orange on them but just checking. Thanks

From the factory these are plated and as you probably know the ends are over molded in soft black rubber where they touch the plug wires.

I have always seen the holders with the hollow side up.  Also be aware there are 3 different plug wire clips.

1. Standard 3 prong, very common, two per engine.
2. horizontal 3 prong and one vertical, making an “L”. One per engine.
3. the last one has another feature that holds the coolant temp sensor wire, if your car came equipped this way. Also one per engine.

I would have assumed they are UN painted since they are shown assembled in the Camaro AIM, most restores do so, but I am SURE I have seen vintage photos of the separators-holders with factory orange paint. Seems odd.
