Rally Wheel dates
« on: April 22, 2023, 03:07:43 AM »
I have what I’m told are 4 of the original rally wheels for my car. I bought the car 4 years ago and the family just found the original wheels and I picked them up. They are all dated K19 8 4 YH. My car is an 09C build and a friend/know it all says that August wheels wouldn’t have made it on to a late September build. Any info you all can provide is appreciated.
The grandson of the original owner unknowingly messed up an original car in the 90s and I’m working to return it as original as financially/reasonably possible.
Thanks!

I don't know any reason why they could not be correct for a September 1969 Z.

Those wheels are most likely original to the car.  I would ignore your “know it all” friend.  FTR (for the record) my 12D LOS 68 still has 3 of its original 12 of 67 DF’s.

Those are the same wheels on a 02E car. I had one & found 4 more...Joe

Badshifter, Id say you struck gold....
I also have a 09C 69 Z (NOR) and have been looking for a correctly dated set of Rally Wheels for years.
I will Quote from the Legends Judging Manual
Page 25
"The wheel stamping date should be within two months of the vehicles assembly date"

If you decide you dont want those wheels I have some gold in exchange.   ;D

Badshifter,
I agree with cook_dw being original to your car, I also have a 09C NOR built X33 and my 4 rally wheels have the same date K19 8 4 YH.
Best of luck with the restoration....John

Badshifter,
Just one check that I thought of after my previous post, you might have already know and have done this.  69 Camaro's were produced in Sept 68, 09C and Sept 69 also 09C.  Your vin should be in the 68X,XXX range to be a 1969 09C car.   The wheels appear to be August 1969 which others have confirmed are correct for their 1969 09C Norwood cars.
BTW there are vin dates by month on this site that you can use to confirm against your Cowl Tag.

I would say that is the norm but would not stay that as gossip as there are always exceptions to almost any rule.

Thank you all. It’s a 1969 09C for sure. Has the X code, Norwood build. I have all of the paperwork since day one, the protecto plate, car still has the original and only plates it’s ever had, and the original dealer license plate frame.
I’m learning, and I know it’s a special car. Thanks again all.

I think your wheels would be possible. My car has about the largest gap I have seen. Wheels are Jan 10 69 on a 05A car. All 5 match to the day including the spare. I have the receipt for the tires that are on the car now on those rims from 1985 that came from the original owner. JohnZ had said in the past that nothing was FIFO they used things as they came in and only made sure the part numbers were correct. Never looked or matched up dates unless there was a quality problem.

B shifter, your car is a second round of 09 correct? The VIN is around 680xxx or so?

I don’t know what second round of 09 means, but the Vin is 685XXX.

That means your car was a VERY late year production, during the August-Dec '69 period that would in a normal year have been used for 1970 model production, but '69 was an extended production year...  :)

I'm sure some of this info is confusing. By the VIN of your car we know it was built in September of 1969. 1969 production was only extended at the Norwood assembly plant. This was because the 1970 Camaro launch was delayed. Otherwise, 1969 production would have ended in July of 69 (and thus your car would not have been built). The wheels you have for your car are appropriate for the build date.
