Get a piece of small o-ring material (1/8" dia. black) cut a small piece off and shove it in between the actual clip part.  Spreads it up real nice.  Pop it in - yer done.  Or - put the clip in the hole, then put the o-ring piece in-between the clips and push it up.  Either way you should be good.

Works everytime.

I had the same problem with the original style hood installation clips staying in place on the hood.  The problem with the plastic clips is the "hook" is not a sharp corner profile to catch and retain on the sheet metal holes in the hood.  I used a sharp box cutter utility knife to carefully trim and remove some of the plastic to form a sharp edge corner.  You can also use a sharp corner on a metal file to help form the sharp corner. I am not at home at the moment to share picture how I modified my chips.

Captured these views of the modification I had to make to my reproduction hood insulation clips.  The "clip_2" pic shows how the clip retaining stem is molded.  The "clip_3" pic shows how I modified it to form sharp lips in the stem to get the clip to stay pushed into the hood.

I think you'll have one helluva time getting them out if you have to.

Camaronut,

I agree!  I also had a helluva time keeping them in place. I recall a couple occasions driving my car shows, open the hood to find a clip missing. Since making this modification…no more missing clips…lol!

I have spare clips if I need one.

That's why I just left the clips as they are and used the cut pieces of "O" ring to spread them apart - they can still be removed if needed.

If I need to remove a clip, I use a small flat blade screwdriver or 1” paint scraper to push in on the stem to pinch it inward while pulling downward on the clip.

The o-ring idea is also good advice!
