Kurt -

If we find a vin-stamped drive train component (or original documentation) like this on Ebay, Craigslist, etc., should we post it here?  I've been posting them in General Discussion as not to clutter up the Orphans section.  I just figure if it's not a component, POP, etc. that I own I won't know where it will be a week from now.  On the other hand, perhaps people are only looking in this section for their original components and documentation.  What's your preference?   ???

That's a good question Paul.
I wondered that same thing. I tend to think that since the ebay, etc, items aren't very traceable after the auction disappears, posting in General Discussion is more appropriate. But I sure won't delete the posts like this one. :)

I'm open for discussion on this one. Anyone have strong feelings one way or the other?

Kurt,

I tend to agree with Paul.  Otherwise, you'll have to clean these threads up every now and then...  And/or you could start an Ebay, etc. section, but it sounds like CRG has enough to do already!

At any rate, this information sharing is great!  Thanks!  ;D

I would post all orphan items here.  An orphan is an orphan.  Even if it is an ebay item and two weeks later it is no longer traceable then at least it was listed in a logical place for folks to find when it was active.     :)    If I'm looking for my long lost (insert item) then the orphan section is going to be the first section I visit.  Perhaps a note stating that it is an ebay item at the time of posting would help Kurt later if he decided to go through and clean the old ones out.   My 2 cents.  ;D

Once the ebay auction runs it's course and is gone all info will be lost other than we know it was for sale on ebay at some time in the past.
More info other than the link would be helpful in finding this later. The problem is that the ebay seller may not keep track of who he sold it to.

92wrangler.sam is the ebay user, we can wait and see who the buyer is.

While I agree the ebay seller "may not keep track of who he sold it to", he may keep track.  Also, some of the auctions show the name of the buyer.  Even if the auction doesn't show the buyer's name, many times you can figure out who bought it by looking at feedback.  So, that would be some possible leads, which beats the heck out of no leads at all.  If I was looking for a long lost part, I would be thrilled to have an ebay lead, even if it were a few years old.

Just my 02 cents.

Lynn

OK with me to put them in the orphan category then.

To help make to try to make ebay actions traceable, how about we add: seller, location, and buyer if it sells.
That should help a lot in finding the part in the future....

Thanks!

Thanks Paul!
You're doing a nice job of documenting these ebay items.
