4 Leaf Springs worth
« on: December 04, 2022, 07:15:09 PM »
I need a set of 4 leaf springs for a '68 Z/28 project. Trying to complete a car to sale. I found a set for sale. But have no idea what to pay. I have never seen a set for sale. Probably also because I never needed any until now.
They are in good condition. Will need a good cleaning and repaint. What should I pay? $500 for the set? Any help appreciated. .. Danny

Well, Reproductions with correct  appearance sell about 500$ now, Given a set of Factory installed 4 leafs are not dated and subject to use on 68/69 model year and folks seeking no compromises with the use of nice quality appearing Repops, I would suspect you are in the ball park at 500$ used. Finding past real world sales will be difficult in my opinion. I would imagine Condition would drive the pricing in a large way. They could require servicing and repairs, Hidden Broken Leafs, Sagging leaf's, Broken retention straps, Rust, Worn slider inserts, Mangled End eyes and so on. These would require serving & repairs.  For a Car for sale depending on the "whole" of the Cars being sold the Remainer of the vehicle originally it could drive even the Choice to go pursuing Factory springs.
Does the Ends justify the Means.

My biggest concern would be the use of 200 dollar Generic 4 leaf's on any 68/69 Z.

Just thoughts as asked for.

I would budget into the price having the springs rearched and the price for the strap kit.

They may not need re-arching.  You really won't know until you install them. I could not find a strap kit that was identical to the ones I removed when I restored mine about 10 years ago.  I made my own straps, and made "rivets" from bolts.  I did not have them re-arched, and they sit perfect.

Well, I ended up buying the springs in a package deal. The springs have been sitting off a car for a estimated 24 years. So, I am taking my chances with NOT re-arching them. I also got in the package 2.5 sets of original door handle bases and pads in Black & Medium blue. Total cost was $700 cash. So if I do the math, I feel I paid $400 for the springs and $300 for the rest. Pads and bases are all in very good condition with very minimal issues. And I think with some cleaning, will be usable for a survivor that has them missing altogether.  .. Danny

Well, if the center measurements are close, you just might be ok. Waiting for the results.

David, What IS that center to center measurement? They are laying on the garage floor under a car. I can get to them if I move the car next to it. D
