Caveat Emptor...a mess

https://www.ebay.com/itm/325308387935

124379L530175

From the ad:

"I traveled to Colorado and purchased this car in 2007 after having gone over it with a fine-tooth comb to make sure it was a true Z/28. I wanted it and bought this car is a driver. It is an Orange County car, so it does not have the X-code like the Ohio cars. You must look to the components to judge the authenticity."

Let's do that.

L530175 was final assembled at Van Nuys on or about June 19, 1969.

Rear axle stamped BU1022, October 22nd. No casting date so could be 1967 or 1968. Date is way off; not original to the car.

Trans is stamped P9B15A, no VIN shown. No proof it is original to the car.

Engine is said to be V1122DZ, no pic. Ad states it is a 3970010 casting. Earliest known 010 casting is April 4, 1969 so the block has to be a re-stamp. Block is also stamped 19S738159; consignor states "S=Signow service plant, 738159 = rebuild ser. # post model production." NO idea where he came up with that; 19S738159 is a 1969 Corvette VIN.

Based on the info posted, none of the info supplied established "it was a true Z/28. "

The guy can't even spell Jerry MacNeish correctly, so I doubt he is even able to use his book correctly.

The engine placed into a '69 Corvette built in the ST Louis assembly plant (Corvettes) was installed in a Corvette in mid-December 1969 (one of the last Corvettes built for 1969), and of course would have been a 350 ci engine in the Corvette.   It would only be a 302 ci now, if someone used the block and a 302 crankshaft to build a 302 ci engine..

The seller sent me a picture of the pad so see below.

I also let the seller know it's a restamp.

Even if it wasn't a restamp and even if the dates weren't all wonky, how would we be able to pair this engine to this car?  There's no partial VIN that matches, no other markings to tie it to this car.  Why am I meant to believe that this is an original engine in an original Z28?  That's not a snarky rhetorical question -- as a guy who doesn't understand 69s very well, I'm curious how a person would entertain this ad at all.
