1968 L48 oil filler tube
« on: August 03, 2022, 03:37:59 AM »
Currently I have an oil filler tube and a filler cap on valve cover. Seems odd. Is it correct?

1968 had the oil fill in the intake only. Valve covers will have 2 holes only, 1 for pcv & the other for fresh air to the air cleaner as part of the pcv system...Joe

As I stated in your OTHER THREAD, you shouldn't have an oil filler in the valve cover. Only the intake. And since you have an L48, your valve covers should be chrome, not painted.

Is his tube & cap correct for the L48 since he hasn't ask? The 302 tube is chrome with a different cap, also chrome....Joe

Thanks Ed. I somehow skipped this last part on oil  cap. I do appreciate your knowledge!

In 67 the filler tube was chrome on the L48 350ci engine.  I'd expect it to be the same in 68, though I didn't check the CRG resources to confirm.

68 is painted orange but cap is chrome.

A little off topic, but doesn't the air cleaner lid in the first photo (Rusty's) look odd around the perimeter? I've looked at it over and over thinking maybe it was a "reflective illusion", but still think it's not correct.  :-\
