Why no reproduction 67 68 headrests
« on: July 04, 2022, 03:53:47 PM »
The one option I wish my 68 car had would be bucket seat headrests.  With all the reproduction parts available for 67 - 69 Camaros, I'm just astounded that no one has stepped up to re-create the early headrests.  I've been waiting years for headrests to be available.  I realize a person would likely have to buy a whole new seat to get the seatback support for the headrest but to me it would be worth it.  Am I missing something here?  Are they available but I just don't know it?  Am I the only one who thinks the standard seats look wimpy without a headrest?

There were only about 4500 cars ordered between 1967 & 1968. Both years were different. I would think tooling cost. How many sets are still around to justify making them. I've had 3 sets over the years & all were good.....Joe

so is there more to it than just obtaining the headrest?  I guess what i'm trying to determine - is the necessary support for the vertical bar there in all 67, 68 seats, or when you ordered the headrest option did that mean you also got a special seat or seat back that had the support for the vertical bar.  Does that make any sense?

It has to be popular enough to reproduce it correctly, have enough buyer interest to make it positive income generating, and someone has to foot the bill to back it from the beginning. As in all cases—research, tooling, materials, labor costs, and retail cost to the consumer all factor in. It’s not going to cheap to do, but I would put them on my 68.
