Hi All.  ;D

New here, been reading for days, created account yesterday and I am ready for the first of many to come posts.

I just purchased a 68 Camaro SS 350/TH400. Yea, I know none of that is original and it is most likely not a true SS. Aside from that  I want to change up the gauges.

Here are my car specifics as best I could cypher from all the info on this site.

1.) I currently have speedo/Fuel cluster.

2.) I have no idea if this car actually came with a console or it was added later. I question this for two reasons. 1.) I cannot find any type of connector under my dash that would connect with the console harness. It's just not there. 2.) The Neutral Safety switch does not have a stock connector. It has loose wiring with crappy looking crimp connectors.

3.) Car has 3 gauge aftermarket set-up mounted under ashtray. Coolant temp/Volts/Oil PSI.

4.) Speedometer works but the MPH is way off. I drove this home from TN to PGH doing 75mph most of the way, but speedometer never went over 57MPH. As near as I can tell, I am betting that the mixed matched trans/Rear End/Tires are the cause. From the little bit of numbers I could read, (so far) I don't think the rear end or trans was ever in a stock 1st gen Camaro.

5.) Car does have HEI distributor.

Here is what I want (to do)...
Remove fuel gauge from cluster and add T3 (Tic-Toc-Tach)
Add factory gauge set-up into the console.

Here is what I think I need to do to make that happen...

1.) Get a T3
2.) get a new circuit plate for back of cluster that supports the T3.
3.) Get a new wiring harness that supports the items I have and those I want to add. Looks like I have to buy the fuse box to get this. Which mine is kind of beat looking so no big deal.
4.) Get a console harness for 68 auto with factory gauge set-up.
5.) I am guessing old oil PSI line will connect to the factory gauge. If not, replace.
6.) Maybe a temp sensor?

So please take a look and see what you think. Have I forgotten anything or over looked something? Do you need more info? Please ask. All replies are welcome.

Thanks in advance

 All replies are welcome.

Step ONE, purchase a Large format Color Wiring Schematic.
classiccarwiring.com

This will be a "additional" tool in addition to the A.I.M & Factory Books.

You’re doing your homework, so good on you. Thumb through the Classic catalog to make sure you’ve got it covered. Upload pictures. Absolutely get a schematic to assist.

Be sure and add the low fuel warning sensor to the gauges and dash light, Always a cool thing to have -

Hmmm, I never saw any info about that, but I will look into it. Thanks

On the plus side, phase 1 done. Also replacing the shifter and console.

Steve, I found info on the low fuel light and I went ahead an got it. Just to be sure I read correct procedure I wanted to ask.

So I changed circuit board at cluster to accommodate Low fuel and Tic-Toc-Tach. I purchased under dash harness that was for 68 Auto w/console and console gauges. I also purchased a console harness with factory gauges. So if I am getting good info, all I need do is connect modules wires. Green to tan, red to pink, black to ground and yellow connects to the yellow pigtail in my console harness. Does that all seem right? Am I missing anything?

Thanks
Chuck

My gauge package wiring shots - not disturbed as far as I can tell, hopefully you can see the low fuel wiring enough to determine the terminations. If not, I'll try to find it in storage and get more pics (or better ones). Let me know if this helps.

Thanks, I think that will do. I can't see it, but I assume the yellow goes to yellow pigtail. I'll let you know. It's going to be a while, I still have to install the under hood harness's before I can test. Thanks again

Everything is GTG on the first go around including the Tic-Toc Tach. I was so happy I did not have issues like some others. Again that is testament to you guys and all the info on this site.

Side note: I am waiting for the fuel to go down to verify the low fuel light. I had a full tank when I started all of this.
