Looks like tag and vin was off. Firewall may have been rusty by the look of the tag. Seller not much help and surprised no one mentioned issues yet

Number of technically incorrect items.
I tend to evaluate something on how much time and how many dollars to put it back to the correct configuration.

The block is a 68 3956618. Does that mean it was or is a 327?

Not necessarily. Just means it was a 4.0” bore block. Could be 350

I forgot to add its a February 68 block.  From what I found looked like it would be a 327.

When it was on ebay 2002, had no front sheet metal, engine or trans.

Words to understand:
“The car is said to have been”——BUYER BEWARE
“This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro convertible is finished in Dover White with Hugger Orange stripes and Indianapolis 500 pace car decals over an orange vinyl interior and is powered by a 350ci V8 paired with a Muncie four-speed manual transmission”———INDEED IT MIGHT BE, but all of the description is copy/paste.
“Engine and transmission numbers milled off”—-HMMMM?
Isn’t the Cowl induction supposed to have a solenoid and flapper?

Betcha that's a 9 - look a little closer to the bottom of the 9's "tail" - it's tucked up under the top of the number. Don't think 6618's were produced that early, never seen them much earlier than December '68 for '69 issue. Feb '69 more likely -

Was wondering if anyone had noticed the ebay rivets and the crusty VIN.  Car was for sale last year and it had an automatic in it.

The 6618 block has a 1969 Casting date, its definitely a 69 block. The 9's sometimes look like 8's. 6618 block was only 1969 mid year. Someone brought this thing back to life.
I dont think its perfect but from where it was, they did a pretty good job. Agreed it has had some rust repair. Tag and VIN off the car at one time. I would not pay a premium for it, but its already at $55K and I'm sure the crowd at BaT doesnt care as long as it looks good.

One guy pointed out that a bidder who says he inspected the car, seems to only bid on this sellers cars.   I looked and hes right.
