A 1970 Corvette was used as the pace car for the event.  This was the first year that the race featured a rolling start.  I'm surprised Chevrolet didn't use the new 2nd generation 1970 Camaro as the pace car.  It had only been introduced to the public a few weeks before in late February and I wonder why Chevy didn't use this chance to promote it in front of a large racing audience?  I guess they figured the sportscar crowd was more interested in the Corvette.

Also notice the film crew in the full size 1970 Chevrolet convertible.

Scott,

I agree, it seems it would have been ideal to showcase the new Camaro. But my guess is that there was no convertible for pace duties.

That's true, the 2nd generation was never made as a convertible and the t-tops did not become an option for many years down the line.

Yeah, it was around 1975/76 when the Bandit edition T/A Firebird came out. I had them installed locally by ASC on a new 1976 Formula 400 Firebird.
