Reminds me when I was looking for a used 40 foot class A RV.  Had a seller tell me that the coach was all packaged up in Omaha NB and ready to ship and if I didn't like it I could ship it back within 30 days.  I told her I had a relative in the Air Force stationed at Omaha and he could go look at it.  She said it was all boxed up and he couldn't see it.  She seemed to have no clue what an RV even was.

I think the rack broach section used on this block needed changing, obviously it had been used continuously since V8 production began in the fall of 1954.

The free shipping is a nice trick - good of the seller to part with some of the $45K extra profit they will make at this price - lol.

Shame, it is a pretty car. Amazing what claims people generate.

This is in Auburn down the road from my friend. I have been talking with him about this car. I got them to remove the paint on the pad and get the block build date and cast #"s posted. The trans VIN is on top. They are pulling the trans today. My friend is friends with the owner. This car has sat in a storage container since the early 80's. My buddy feels like this is a good stamp on the pad AND the rear.  :o :o  So, I bet him a thousand dollars that it was a restamp. I wouldn't be able to take the money, but it is fun. I sent it to JM and he doesn't like it. And feels it is a bad restamp. My buddy says JM is super sharp, but is mistaken on this one.  So the reason my buddy thinks it's real is he has a '68 Nova SS from the Willow run days and it has the same font stamp. It has the closed " 4". I pointed out the 3, 4, 8, and the M on the MO part. BUT... that because it's a NON Norwood car. And they both have different stamp fonts??? I am dying to know. Car is WAY to low and has replacement fenders with thumb size gaps. Rubber under tank straps and a few other things. Most importantly engine trans stamps. Was on CL for 65K yesterday? ... Danny

Nicely equipped.
Broach marks of blocks machined in Flint in the same time period would exhibit similar characteristics - same with assembly and VIN stamps.
Comparison should illustrate differences or similarities.

So, I bet him a thousand dollars that it was a restamp.

Go collect your thousand dollars because (in my opinion) it's a restamp. Look at the broach marks. They're not parallel to each other (see below). The numbers are also spaced too far apart from each other as compared to other stamps in this same time frame.

Not only that, but a few quick things I noticed is that the car has 69 "bent" head rest seats, cheap $100 generic leaf springs, incorrect exhaust, missing the bell housing inspection plate, silver (?) brake booster, aftermarket shifter and missing the upper molding on the fold down rear seat (also see below). I also believe the axle is a restamp.

I'd like to see a better picture of the transmission suffix & partial VIN, the date code of the block and the date code on the center section of the axle. A better picture of the wheel date codes would also be nice, but to be honest, in my opinion he's asking almost $98k for a $35-$40k car.

I didn't say it WASN'T a Z28. It may very well be. But with all the restamps and incorrect items on the car, you'd need to either get factory documentation or have Jerry MacNeish inspect it before plunking down that kind of money.

I agree Ed. I saw the springs and exhaust also. It has a matching dist., carb., intake. But of course, that means nothing. Those GIANT river marks were filled in pretty good until I had them remove the paint. What the hell would cause that? Note the first hidden VIN DOES match. And it's a 678 block. My buddy is there so I can get a better trans stamp and the VIN on the trans should be coming any time. Block casting looks like July 3rd '68. ... Danny

A Nicolson File would cause that. Ha Ha, those are not GM broach marks. IMO.

Car was in pieces. It was assembled and the motor and trans rebuilt. Or at least the motor for sure. The paint is new/fresh. It needs ALOT of work as far as I am concerned. I am not an expert. Light working knowledge only. I trust the judgment of Ed, Bryon, Jerry, Kurt, William, Darrell... etc. you know the group of guys. Plus a few more. So I am really wondering on this one. Transmission to get a trans pic, and a rear cast date. We will see... Danny

Broaching does not conform to known legit examples. As stated the broaching scrapes should be parallel to each other.

Ad is very deceptive, leading, and "playing" with words.
"Numbers matching" is really just a loose, over used description any more. If somebody was to go 98k on this one and had issues, a fair attorney could get the seller out of it.

Danny pointed out those gaps,,any takers on filler?

My guess car will go for a bit under 98K, and if buyer saves say 30%,,what a deal..

I was told by my friend who restores cars and has a collection... that no way to re-align the repro fenders. Not when the front end lines up. And that metal will have to be added. He said he could stick his whole thumb in the gaps. Mr. Jano, can you post that picture of them side by side please. Still no trans pic. Will update accordingly... Danny

Sorry, not posting my pad pic.

may be here, or yenko I read the post. someone out there renting a gangstamp?? so you can have a "correct numbers match engine" I'm out on showing a simple comparison.

I usually can care less what's  for sale, only a few ever irk me. this is an example of one. An insult to anybody who has spent thousands of hours trying to "get it right" A poor facsimile of good. IMHO

Private owner, different story.
Guy posting his finished project, or at a show: thumbs up!

Of course,  if this does pull coin,,ramps um all up. Until the economy re-adjusts.

All these posts and noone added the VIN: 124378L348454

I trust the judgment of Ed, Bryon, Jerry, Kurt, William, Darrell... etc. you know the group of guys. Plus a few more. So I am really wondering on this one.
I'm confused. You say you trust the judgement, then you say that you are really wondering. Wondering about what? They said it's a restamp numerous times. I say it's clearly a restamped pad and an overstamped axle.

Sorry, not posting my pad pic.
I completely agree. Nothing to be gained and there is something to lose.

Kurt my comment... "So I am really wondering on this one" .... Is related to the WHOLE package. I made the bet with my friend because even " I "thought it was a re-stamp. BUT we STILL don't know about the transmission VIN. So yes the trust is still there and will always be... But I am STILL wondering if this was ever even a real Z/28. Or did they take a SS 4-Speed car and drop in a re-stamped drive train. The glove box sticker was painted over thick. WHO would do that if they knew they had a real Z/28. The whole package is suspect to me and has been from the start. Hope that clears it up for ya  ... Danny

That extra 10 grand is for the "free shipping"!

And by the way, I'd double check the VIN on that car. It's probably just a typo, but he has the VIN listed as 124378L348454 instead of 124378L348453!
