68 engine department hoses
« on: January 24, 2022, 07:50:21 PM »
I thought I would start on new post on my quest to detail the engine compartment of my 68.  The car is an 05C Norwood build.  It has a 1974 350 with an Edelbrock intake manifold and carb.  My goal is to make it “look” as original as I can.  I have researched the AIM and Forums but many of threads are quite old and, at least to me, not definitive, it seems the answers may be dependent on when and where the car was built.
So, specific to my car, here are my current questions.
Heater hoses, should they have ribs and/or GM square logos, on one or both?  The repo catalogs are not very specific as to applications, who sells the right ones?  What length should they be?
Power steering, do the hoses go under or over the engine mount.  Do both go there or is one go under and one over, which one  goes where?
I have seen references to engine compartment photos from the Sep/Oct 1996 Camaro Enthusiast magazine, does anyone have a link to those?
As always, thanks in advance for your help.

68's and VERY early 69's used smooth hoses with the [SQUARE GM] logo an on the larger.
If you are not using the 68 style waterpump and alternator setup which mounts the alt on the drivers side it will appear like a 69 up engine.

I'm gonna respectfully disagree just a little bit with you James on the all used smooth.  There are photos of original cars with a ribbed hose and GM logo hose.  Chick and I had this discussion several years ago and we came (at least from what I remember) to the conclusion that multiple suppliers used different styles of hoses.  I feel it was more hit and miss than we think.  I think either is fine on the 5/8" hose being smooth or ribbed but the 3/4" would be GM logo as the most common.  My worthless $0.02

Thanks for the responses, greatly appreciated!  Any thoughts on which supplier, either Camaro or Corvette that would have the most appropriate set with ribs on one and GM logo on the other?

Ribbed or Grooved?
The later 69 hoses are actually grooved from the factory not ribbed.
