Windshield Fabric installation strip(Dam)
« on: December 15, 2021, 05:11:58 PM »
Does anyone know where to acquire a correct white colored fabric ribbon similar to what the factory used in installation?  The old threads on this subject did not have any recourses at the time and wondering if anything like that has come available for a factory correct windshield installation.

The fabric was there for nothing other than to prevent it being stretched during installation - same reason the trunk seal has a string in it.
The original dam is not available, you can go to a fabric store and search through the ribbons for something similar, which is what I have done in the past.

Kinda have a stupid question - how does the windshield stay in place if its laying against the fabric rather than the actual sealer?
Never understood that.

The cloth mesh was the base of the dam which is placed approx - 3/8" from the edge of the glass then a bead of Thiakol sealer adhesive was run in the 3/8" margin... the latex foam dam was used to keep the sealer from pushing out into the car cabin, it acts to control the adhesive and by retaining it to the 3/8 margin it also keeps the glass from being pushed too close to the windshield frame, which causes issues with how the trim fits to the frame and the glass surface.

It almost looks like canvas similar to the material used on door mechanisms.
