Fuel Pump original?
« on: January 22, 2024, 12:33:19 AM »
Quick question about my fuel pump. It has the part number 40727 on it however it doesnít have the AC Delco logo, instead it looks like it says D5 on the side. Curious as to whether or not itís original or a Chinese knock off. Thanks for any help itís appreciated.

Not original. Should be a 40568 AC. What is the assm date of your engine?....Joe

I have done research on these pumps. The 40568 was made from 8/1967 through 9/1969 & used on all 396 engines. The earliest 40727 I ever found was 11/1969 & it was original to a 1/70 LS6 Chevelle. I still watch on a daily basis to see what else I can add to my research....Joe

Thanks Joe, interesting stuff, so is it safe to say the one I have is a knock off due to not having the AC logo? Asking because I have to replace it and dont want to throw anything away Iíd kick myself for later.

It was some company's replacement but not assm line original. What you're looking for will have the AC logo & the flange will have a 2 letter code followed by 40568. Yours should have an "H" as the second letter indicating the pump was built in 1968 for a 1969 car. That pump is getting harder to find but if you get lucky enough to find a core, it can be rebuilt by Fred Ballard in California....Joe
