L78 Throttle Rod Location
« on: July 28, 2021, 05:09:38 AM »
Can someone look at the attached photo and tell me where an original 69 Camaro L78 throttle rod was connected to the 4346 carburetor?

On the z/28. which is also a Holley, it shows position #3. Wonder if it's the same?....Joe

The drawing in the AIM is poor at best and difficult to make out, but it's actually number 2. The Z/28, L78, L89 and L72 throttle rod fits in the SMALL hole directly below the LARGE hole in the throttle lever. (The LARGE hole that takes a black rubber bushing and white nylon sleeve wasn't used.)

Here's a picture of an unrestored Z28 (see below)

FYI - AIM shows Z28 for 68 to be in location #2 and 69 shows #3.  Why idk.  All applications I have seen are in #2 as Ed has shared.  67 has a different throttle arm on the 3910 in the AIM.

Look at Note 5 in the 68 AIM. On 3-8-68 "View A item 3 relocated". Looks like they didn't fix it in the 69 AIM! But even the 67 AIM is wrong! It shows the arm being in the LARGE hole (#1 in the picture above) which is incorrect. It was located in the small hole underneath that. That's why you can't always go by the AIM drawings!

However. I will say that I've tried all three holes (#1, #2 and #3) and #1 gives you the most leverage. (Easier to press the pedal down) and #2 has the least amount of leverage. If you're not "showing" your car, you could use #1 with the bushing and sleeve and no one would probably even notice!

I was agreeing with you Ed.  My point was as you mentioned the AIM isn't always correct.  I edited my previous post to make it a little more clear.

Yes, I know and I was agreeing with you on agreeing with me as I agreed with you when you agreed with me that we both agreed!! I just wanted to add a little embellishment to the thread.
