69 Z28 Database
« on: December 05, 2005, 10:19:40 AM »
I've looked at alot of cars that were suppose to be nice that were junk and cars that were suppose to be matching # and real that were fake. Is there a way to check the database. Also there is one that I think you would like to have entered into your database. Thanks. Leo.

The database (which includes all 67-9 models, not just Z's) is not public.
Just post the VIN here or send it via email.
Thanks!

To clarify, the db has been laboriously created over the years from various sources. These include observed cars (car shows, ebay, etc), posted or submitted data, and documentation. Most of the data consists of the #'s off of the cars; as you'd expect, most cars don't have documentation.

Even at over 10,000 cars in the db, we still have only 1.5% of the first gen Camaros.

I have the info of a POS i was suppose to buy off ebay. Was told it was code 71 Lemans Blue and all matching #s, original panels no rust When I went to pick up the car the tag read code 72 Hugger Orange and the motor was restamped, wrong transmission, carb, pulleys, distributor, intake, angle plug heads and a scattershield. Hacked on quarters and the trunk pan was wrinkled and straightened from being hit in the rear. Let me know.

Hi Ed,
Sorry, nothing on that VIN.
As I said above, unless we've run across the car or documentation on the car, it's not likely to be in there. No problem checking. :)

Kurt, I have owned my 69  Z for 27  yrs, the vin is 124379N613224.  It has a build date of 02D and I had the rear out of it this weekend, it date coded 12/8/68.  It also is cooded BT for 3:55.  It is the same rear that has been in the car since I have owned it.  I also have a late December DZ motor, even though it is not a numbers matching, could it be considered the correct date code?

Thanks, Wayne

Wayne,
Not in that timeframe. They were running all out then, parts came in and went right into a car. They didn't sit around.  I had to go back 43,000 cars before yours to see an axle with a date close to that......
Coded correct, but not dated correct, IMO. Not to say that some judging standards wouldn't say it was acceptable.

I've had for 10 years what I think is a 69Z.  There are several reason why I think that I do even though I don't have documentation.   I don't believe the trim tag was switched.

According to several resources, my car (11A (68) build date) should have an early trim plate.  But yet it looks like I have a late trim plate.  N535006

Kurt any thoughts?

The size of the trim tag is not an indicator whether or not it's a Z. I've seen other 11A cars with the large trim tag, including L6 cars.
Hope this helps....

Kurt, I guess I muddied the waters when I tossed in the Z-28 part.

My question was on the timing of the early trim vs the into of the late tag on Norwood cars.

By most accounts, my 11A car should have an early trim tag, but yet I have a late tag. From what Ive read ithe late trim tag was introduced the last week in November 68.  So this is just one of the unique aspects of car building in the 60's?

Would it be a suprise that the partial VIN is stamped down by the oill filter? I understand this was not done until Jan 69

Also, do you have any listing on my VIN? (N535006)

I didn't have anything on your car.
Down by the oil filter is surprising. What's the engine date?

Hi Kurt,

I have a 69 Z that I've owned since 1982, and I know is not in your data base. Do you want info to add?

Kurt,

I have all original drive train parts. What do you want - casting dates, assembly dates, etc.? I can email a spreadsheet, or?

Kurt,

What about an 04C car?  How close was the drivetrain date codes to the week the car was made?  Thanks.

Jimmy,
A spreadsheet would be fine.
Thanks!

Gambitt,
Like most of 69, close. Depends on what component, some are even closer than others.

Yeah, I had heard that...I might be wrong, but I think I remember hearing that distributors were much closer to the build date.  I am looking to put my car back close to original...and I located a C269 block, so I figure that is as close as I will ever come.  Thanks for the info.

This thread over at Team Camaro seems to suggest approximately 2 weeks for engines. Both V1I19DZ engines had early December VINS.

I wouldn't sweat a cast date.  That's getting pretty close to what I'd expect.
