Floor Mounted Clock
« on: February 19, 2021, 12:24:14 AM »
Hi Camaro experts:

I'm restoring my 1968 standard base-model Camaro with 327 3-spd back to its original condition.  I have a hole in the carpeting just in front of the shifter (see first photo) and was told by the original owner several years ago that it was for a floor-mounted clock (second photo).  I purchased a clock for a 1968 Camaro (see third photo) and am wondering if it's correct for the car since I'm not sure floor-mounted clocks came with manual transmissions.  Also, did some floor-mounted clocks come with bezels (fourth photo) and others didn't? Finally, who sells install kits for the floor mounted clocks and where can it be repaired?  Many thanks for any assistance.  gwp4

You could absolutely get floor mounted clocks with floor shift cars, with or without a console. Console cars would have the housing in your last photo. Non console cars would just have the clock mounted as in photo 2; the gold interior 67.

Hi folks -

I believe I might need a bracket on the bottom of the clock (see photos) in order to attach it to the bracket on the console (see additional photo).  Hope someone has some advice on where the bracket can be found.  Finally, does anyone have any experience dealing with "The Clock Works" in Eagle River, WI auto clock specialists?  Thinking of having them check out my floor clock to make sure it works.  Once again, appreciate any help/comments.  gwp4

I have the console with gauges in my 67, and sent my original, non-working clock to The Clockworks about 18 months ago.  I did not do the quartz upgrade.  I was pleased with their work, and their customer service was very good.  The clock is still running very well.

I saw one of those at Camaro Central, but it's the clock and bracket together.  Part# CON-33F. They are original GM parts,

No experience with Clock Works, but have heard good things about them. Check with them to see if they can help you out with the bracket. They might at least have a referral. You could also check with Camaro Specialties, D&R or Heartbeat City. Worst case is that it doesn't look like it would be difficult to fabricate one.

There's a current eBay auction that shows the bracket details a little closer-up, should you need to fabricate one.

gwp4, you might try contacting that seller and asking if he'd take measurements of the bracket for you. Some people are helpful that way.

Hi - all good responses and very much appreciated.  Specifically, I'm trying to figure out how to fasten the bracket to the clock (GM 987185).  I've attached a photo of the clock assembly kit that came with my purchase showing the screws/nuts/washer.  I've also attached a photo with the holes from the bracket to the clock circled in red.  In researching this a little, GM Instruction Sheet Part No. 3903412 dated 4-11-1966 notes that the bracket holes take a 10-16x5/8 screw, but I'm not sure that's going to work.  Look forward to any assistance.  Many thanks in advance.  gwp4

It looks to me like once the floor bracket is installed, you separate the clock from the housing and use the 10-16 x 5/8" screws to secure the housing to the bracket (from inside the housing) and then reinstall the clock into the housing.
