Water pump gaskets 69z

Here is a good question. Are the waterpump gaskets the same left and right?one side has three holes and the other side has four. I usually trim the gasket for the side side with the three holes.Only owned one car with the true original waterpump never removed and didnt  looked at it . Anyone have a car with the waterpump never removed?

I just removed a original water pump   never removed from a 69 nova 307 and it had   the 2 hole gaskets on both sides

FWIW - I don’t know if 69 is different from 1970 BUT-  I have a unmolested 6,000 mile 1970 Z28 LT1 motor , that has never been apart ( except for taking valve covers off ) , and it has a 4 hole gasket on passenger side and the 3 hole gasket on drivers side. I had old NOS GM gasket kit before and it had 1- 4 hole gasket and 1 -3 hole gasket.

I was under the impression that the 4 hole gskts were generic type that were supplied by rebuilders?
I’ve been trimming the extra hole off for years in all our restorations.

I have bought a few NOS water pumps - 608s, 609s and they had black 2 (bolt) hole gaskets.

I have been trimming them for years also . Just trying to figure out what is true assembly line . thanks everyone

Two hole gaskets were factory installed so cutting off the extended gasket hole is the correct way to go.
