One More 69 Z/28 Stripe Question...
« on: November 07, 2020, 05:39:35 PM »
I've researched this to no end but I am still fuzzy on one thing:

On a 01B NOR car are the decklid stripes the 68 narrow-spaced stripes?  I saw a reference somewhere that "early" cars were the narrow style but had it didn't specify a date.

There are two anomalies rarely seen on '69 Z/28 rear stripes, both out of the Van Nuys plant. There are no known differences in cars built at Norwood.

A very few early cars have the rear stripes in the '68 position. Not unusual to see non-vinyl top cars with the stripes in the vinyl top location. It is technically correct as the build dimensions are incorrect.

Excellent topic. I have a Van Nuys 1969 z28. Build date Oct 1968. It has the shorter rear stripes. The stripe dimensions align exactly with the assembly manual stripe dimensions.

Interesting info. I had my car (12C Van Nuyes) repainted in the Early 80's didn't measure stripes below back window, and when stripe day came I applied from memory. Had the width on rears, replaced deck lid. They went back on lower than AIM, I had a copy but it just didn't look right. Thanks much really appreciate all you folks do to preserve the history of these cars!

I don't know if you got your specific question answered...
As far as I know ALL 1969 NOR Z28's found to date have the typical 1969 stripe arrangement.
The earliest I know of is a 09B (early) Norwood Z28 Vinyl top car which has the arrangement illustrated in the 1969 Assembly manual.
If anyone knows of an earlier 69 Nor Z28 with original paint or traces of original paint please advise.
