'68 396 engine stamp
« on: October 23, 2020, 01:30:03 AM »
Can someone help me de-code the engine stamp on my 1968 Camero 396 please? First 7 of the stamp are T0823MW. Research shows the MW is an L35 325/396, but I did not find any info on the first 5 digits. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Easy enough - click on "Drivetrain Decode" at the top of the home page, or use this link. Everything you need to decipher is there -

Tonawanda big block
Engine assembly date: August 23rd

Your are correct regarding the engine suffix.  FWIW, I have the exact same engine in my ‘68 RS/SS Convertible.

67 GTO 400 conv. - 68 Camaro 396 conv.
69 R-Code Mach 1 - 78 VW Beetle conv.

Bentley is gonna have to take his post 'back'... :) .. since we do have some information on CamEros...  :)

Reminds me of my dad telling me one evening when the Camaros first were introduced...   he said (teasing me I'm sure)...  'I think I might buy one of those new CamReos'....   Of course I told him they were CAMAROS...  *L*
