69 door undercoating/sound deadner
« on: October 03, 2020, 08:38:17 PM »
Was there a particular pattern done to the inside of the doors?
Thanks, Doc.

I don't remember any undercoating applied to the insides of the doors only the paper between the door and interior panels.

There was a thick undercoat type of coating sprayed that looks the same used in the trunk inside on the quarters. On my 67 it was primarily from mid-way top to mid-way bottom with the heaviest along the door center. I read somewhere this was for sound deadening and to prevent any possible resonating within the door cavity.

Here is My 1968 LOS sample, you can see the line and texture, I agree it sure looks like trunk application.

Does a hard line suggest the material was applied to the door skin prior to assembly on the door shell?

If you do not apply undercoat when you reskin a door, it will have a hollow tinny sound, door will not sound solid when closed.
