Radio capacitor 1964086
« on: August 20, 2020, 05:09:03 PM »
On U63 A4 In AIM it says the 1964086 capacitor goes in a different location if the car has C60. Anybody have a guess why this is so? Nothing of the a/c system is different there. Thank you, Joe

Looking at the 67 AIM diagram for U63, the AC evaporator assembly "suitcase" runs vertical down the firewall more so than what the C60 sketch shows - clear down to where it bends back for the front floor pan.  So they likely had to locate it along the top edge of the case, otherwise it would be very low on the firewall, and difficult to service.  Plus there's a condensation drain at the bottom of the case.  See UPC C60 Sheet D1 or D5 (67 AIM) to get a better idea of the true AC case size.

I'm sorry you guys can't see what I'm thinking :) I should've said it's the one on the voltage regulator. Thanks again, Joe

It would help if I paid attention to the capacitor part number and AIM sheet you cited, LOL.

I've no idea why they show different locations.  I know on 67-8s they're all the same regardless of AC, and have the additional capacitor at the coil.  And it doesn't seem the AC harness to the horn relay below, would pose any interference.  Both sketches on that sheet look odd to me, as I thought the capacitor always screwed into the regulator base at the radiator side and not by the harness connection as they show.  Can't make out the sheet revision note either.

My 68 is also on the side of the regulator. I haven't looked in AIM for it. I had a discussion with somebody off line & he thought the engineer was creating busy work :)

Not sure who's creating busy work here, JOE...I'm looking in my 68AIM, U63 A4 (pg406) and there's no mention of alternate locations or C60, period. Are you referring to the 69AIM in your original post ??
