North Carolina has no inspection for vehicles older than 20 or 25 years. That can be real scary.

I suppose. I gotta think most people that have cars that old must know how to maintain them. I wouldn't think many daily drivers still out there from the early nineties.

Thank goodness the owner finally said something about the noise.

I saw one set like these years ago in a friend's alignment shop, elderly owner complained of a "grinding noise" when he braked - piston side pad was totally gone, into the piston after that. Sound had to be horrendous - good thing the guy didn't drive much faster than about 30, according to the shop owner. 70's big GM if I remember correctly. Sheese -

Was the caliper seized ? That much heat should have welded it into a single unit -
