Thanks for posting Bentley! With 4 data points I'd conclude the numbers on the return hose are a date code in the DDD - Y format. For your 12B Norwood X22, the PS return hose date of 291 - 8 or October 17, 1968 is about 60 days prior to the build date. Thanks also for confirming use of Wittek 2 style screw clamps on both ends of the return hose.

Not an expert on these but most of the original high pressure hoses I have seen have one long crimp, not the two closely spaced crimps that was on yours.

Thanks for posting, the single crimp style would seem to be period correct. Would you post a photo of the writing/script on the high pressure hose please?

You probably already know this, but if replicating factory hoses they should also have that foam rubber sleeve as seen in 70Z28LT1's picture.  I'm not sure if the later replacements had that detail.  A few older PS hoses threads from here:

I'll have to dig it out if I can remember where it is.  :-[

Maybe its in the bathroom or kitchen under the sink.  So many parts around the house. ;D

Dug out my hoses and the high pressure hose markings are basically illegible.  There's an "A G04279" which is the date code and that's about it.
The low pressure return hose is marked "P.S. Return  96-0 3931898 CC"

It would be great if you would add a photo.

Here you go

Thanks for posting, the return hose script and date code scheme is the consistent with the hoses that I have. For the high pressure hose, how often does the script repeat, in other words what distance do you measure between the script on the high pressure hose? Also would you measure the height of the letters? Thanks.

The script repeats either every 6 inches or possibility of 3 inches.  On mine, there is no printing at the 3 inch point, but they may have been rubbed away.  The foam wrap is at the 3 inch place.

The characters are 0.25 high, 0.125 wide and on a center-to-center spacing of 0.187.

Thinking of refreshing the stamps.  Any idea who makes the stamps?  Hobby Lobby or Michael's Aart supply?

Thinking of refreshing the stamps.  ...?

IMO, that's the worst thing you could possibly do to an original marking on an original part.

The (return) hoses I have are dated 1970 and well past their service life. My plan is to have stencils made so I can replicate the hose markings (font/date scheme/repeats) on new hoses using correct dates for my project. I hope also to establish a knowledge thread for future reference. The shop I use for stencils shut down so I need to find a new one.

Thanks Lloyd and Hans. I had to change my return hose due to a leak. Wiped it down, looks like original and the clamps as well. My 68 is an 11E 6 cylinder, so I took pictures to share.
