1968 SS396 Thermostat Housing Finish
« on: August 06, 2019, 01:45:20 AM »
What was the factory finish on the thermostat housing of a 1968 SS396 engine, bare aluminum or Chevy orange paint?

Pretty sure it should be intake color. Let's see if others agree...Joe

Thanks for the help, guys.  I looked at a lot of pictures and it was a mixture of bare and paint.

The only area I can see with not having paint would be the part of the neck that has the hose. I believe the neck and smaller nipples had caps on them when the block was sprayed.

The coolant pump nipple was also masked in paint along with the pad and by-pass hose.
